EYFS – Starfish

Welcome to Starfish, our Early Years class. In Foundation Stage 2 we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (Development Matters), working towards the Early Learning Goals across the 7 Areas of Learning by the end of the Summer Term. We use Essential Letters and Sounds to plan and deliver daily phonics lessons, with a phonics homework activity sent home every Friday. Children access Continuous Provision across both indoor and outdoor areas, which are open all day, every day, whatever the weather — including Junk Modelling, Role-Play, Construction, Small World, Sand and Water Trays, Transient Art, a Maths Area, Writing Area, Jigsaw Station and more.

Informed by the national Writing Framework, in EYFS the foundations of writing; handwriting and spelling are explicitly taught. Prioritisation of speech and language development, introduction to a broad range of vocabulary and lots of early opportunities for oral composition underpin pupils’ future success in writing composition.

Year 1/2 – Whales, Turtles and Dolphins

Our Year 1 and 2 children are taught in three classes — Whales, Turtles and Dolphins — and are taught in different groups for Reading, English and Mathematics, coming together to learn all other National Curriculum subjects. Across their time in Key Stage 1, our topics include The Great Fire of London, Kenya, Schools Now and in the Past, and Our Local Area — including fieldwork exploring Chapeltown and Sheffield — alongside significant individuals such as Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong. Year 3/4 – Unicorns, Hydras and Krakens

Year 3 and 4 gives pupils the platform to move confidently from Key Stage 1 into the rest of Key Stage 2. Across Unicorns, Hydras and Krakens, the team aims to provide high-quality learning experiences in every subject, always striving to make learning fun, accessible to all, and full of exciting opportunities. Our curriculum takes pupils from the Ancient Egyptians and the Vikings through to the Romans and Ancient Greece, and from rivers and mountains to the wider world beyond — including a visit to Creswell Crags to bring the Stone Age to life. We aim to provide an inclusive, engaging and stimulating learning environment that promotes a love of learning for all pupils.

Year 5 – Griffins

In Griffins, the team ensures the Year 5 National Curriculum is followed, whilst making learning fun and engaging. We aim for every child to achieve their targets by the end of the year. Pupils explore a variety of topics across the year — from Climate Zones and Biomes to South America — always with the opportunity to explore their learning in a cross-curricular way, with reading, writing, art and other subjects linking together so that children are fully immersed in their learning.

Year 5: Griffins (Mr David Kerry)

Year 6 – Squonks

Year 6 is the final year before children make the move to Secondary School, so in Squonks it’s about getting our pupils ready for that big transition — helping them reach their full potential in their end of Key Stage assessments (SATs), while having the most exciting, fun and inspiring time along the way. Our curriculum includes a study of World War Two and the Ancient Maya, alongside a local history study of Sheffield’s steel industry, giving pupils a rich and varied final year before they move on.
