Early Years Foundation Stage
Welcome to the Early Years class page. In Foundation Stage 2 we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (Development Matters). Our end goal in the Summer Term is to have met the ‘Early Learning Goals’ across the 7 Areas of Learning. We use Essential Letter and Sounds to plan and deliver daily phonics lessons. (We send home a weekly phonics homework activity every Friday)
Children can access Continuous Provision in both Foundation Stage Classrooms and our Outdoor Area is open all day, every day – whatever the weather! Some of the activities the children can choose from are as follows: Junk Modelling, Role-Play Area, Construction Area, Small World Area, Sand Tray (Indoor and Outdoor), Water Tray, Transient Art, Malleable Area, Funky Fingers, Maths Area, Writing Area, Jigsaw Station, Computer Area, Reading Area, Mud Pit, Outdoor Area.
Year 1/2
We have three mixed Year 1 and Year 2 classes therefore we follow the National Curriculum for both year groups. This year our class author is Martin Waddell and so we are the Ducks, Owls and Bears classes. We love to foster a love of learning every day and both our staff and children work incredibly hard to achieve this and make our learning fun!
Our Year 1 and 2 children are taught in different groups for Reading, English and Mathematics but we come together to learn all the other National Curriculum subjects. This year we learn about The great Fire of London, Kenya, schools now and in the past and lots more! You can see all the Units of Learning we study by clicking on our Long Term Plan lower down the page.
Year 3/4
Year 3 gives pupils the platform to move confidently from Key Stage one into Key Stage two. Together, the team aim to provide high quality learning experiences in every subject and always strive to make learning fun, accessible to all and full of exciting opportunities. We aim to provide an inclusive, engaging and stimulating learning environment that encourages a love of learning to be promoted for all pupils.
We begin Year 4 immersed in the Stone Age and visit the wonderful Creswell Crags to imagine ourselves as hunter-gatherers and Stone-Age boys and girls! The children always get the opportunity to explore this amazing topic in a thoroughly cross-curricular way, with reading, writing, art and other subjects interwoven with our chosen history unit. We continue the year with a focus on Europe, The Romans, The Ancient Greeks and Volcanoes, inspiring our pupils to become investigative historians and globe-trotting geographers whilst making artefacts, tasting world cuisine and developing exciting scientific experiments which can involve explosions!
Year 5
Together, the team ensures the Year 5 national curriculum is followed, whilst making learning fun and engaging. We aim for all children to achieve their targets by the end of the year. In Year 5 we cover a variety of topics throughout the year. The children always get the opportunity to explore their amazing topics in a cross-curricular way, with reading, writing, art and other subjects linking together to ensure the children are fully immersed in their learning.
Year 6
Together, the team ensures the Year 6 national curriculum is followed, whilst making learning fun and engaging.
Year 6 is the final year before children make the move to Secondary School, so Year 6 is about getting our pupils ready for that big transition, helping them to reach their full potential in their end of key stage assessments (SATs) and most importantly, having the most exciting, fun and inspiring time while they are still part of our Windmill Hill family!
